Overview

The 19-day Everest Three High Passes trek embarks with a historical and cultural tour in Kathmandu Valley. After a scenic mountain flight to the Tenzing-Hillary Airpot at Lukla, we begin our trek through Phakding. Then walking through the beautiful pine forest along the raging Dudh Koshi River. We will cross the amazing Sherpa villages of Benkar, Monjo, Chioma, and Jorsale to finally reach Namche Bazaar. From Namche, we will make our way to Tengboche Monastery which is the largest monastery in the Everest region located at an altitude of 3860 m. We then continue our trek to Dingboche and conquer crossing the highest pass among the three – Kongma La pass. After crossing the Kongma La, we will make our way to the famous Everest base camp and Kala Patthar.
 
We then hike back and head towards Cho La Pass through the villages of Lobuche and Dzongla. After summiting the Cho La Pass, we will trek through a downward trail to the majestic lakes of Gokyo. The journey of the Everest Three High Passes trek begins with hiking to Gokyo lakes and continues to trek to the final pass of Renjo La.
 
We then follow an ancient route via Nangpo La to reach Thame and then Namche. Finally, after 19 days of magical journey, we concluded our trip to Lukla and took our flight back to Kathmandu. Everest Three High Passes Trek is a perfect trekking destination for travel enthusiasts looking for challenging trekking. However, if you are looking for a slightly less adventurous trek that also includes trekking to Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Valley, and Kala Patthar then, Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lake is an ideal choice.
 
Note: The provided hotel is of the 2-3 star category and can be customized to meet the needs of the visitor. Furthermore, the itinerary is a basic outline of the trek that can be adjusted and modified upon request.

Everest Three High Passes Trek itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport

Once you land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our friendly representative will be there to give you a warm welcome. Look for them outside the arrival terminal. They’ll take you to your hotel in our private vehicle for our journey of Everest Three High Passes trek.

Day 2 : Guided Exploration in Kathmandu Valley or Trek Preparation

Today, you’ll have two options: either get ready for your Three High Passes trek or explore the sights of Kathmandu Valley. If you still need some trekking gear, you can buy what you need. If you’ve already prepared in your own country, you can discuss any final details with your guide for this Three High Passes trek.

Kathmandu offers different main places to explore: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. These are important world heritage sites, each with its unique religious significance.

Day 3 : Flight to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

We start our day early, heading to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for a scenic 40-minute flight to Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla (2,800 meters) for this thrilling adventure of the Everest Three High Passes trek. Upon arrival, our guide will provide a briefing and introduce you to our porters before we kick off our trek towards Phakding (2,640 meters).

Once we meet our crew, we begin the trek by descending to the Dudh Koshi River, connecting to the main trail leading to Namche Bazaar. Continuing on, we pass through the village of Ghat (2,550 meters). The walk today is relatively easy. After a short stroll from
Ghat, we reach our destination for the day, Phakding.

Day 4 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar

After breakfast, we set off for Namche Bazaar. The Everest Three High Passes trek involves a mix of uphill and downhill stretches, with several crossings of the Dudh Koshi River. As we continue, we reach the village of Benkar, offering a breathtaking view of Mt. Thamserku (21,675 feet). We cross multiple bridges and arrive at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park in Monjo. Crossing the Jorsale village, we eventually reach Namche Bazaar, often referred to as the Gateway to the Everest region. Namche provides picturesque views of Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, and other stunning peaks.

Day 5 : Rest and Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Today is a planned rest day to help your body adjust to the high altitude. We’ll spend the day in Namche, acclimatizing to the elevation. Our short trek will take us to a museum known for its exhibits showcasing the traditional costumes of the Sherpa people.
Additionally, we’ll hike to Syangboche Airport and the Everest View Hotel, which is one of the highest hotels in the world. From this vantage point, we can enjoy stunning views of the Himalayas, including a glimpse of Mount Everest.

Day 6 : Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

Today’s journey starts with an easy trail to Phunki Thanga, offering superb views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and a close-up view of Thamserku. The trek continues on a gradual path with a few ups and downs. Descending steadily to Kyangjuma,
we then reach Sanasa, a trail junction to Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp. After crossing a suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, we trek through pine forests to reach Phunki Tenga. Following a steep climb through a pine forest, we finally arrive at
Tengboche, where close-up views of Ama-Dablam, Nuptse, and Everest await. We’ll also explore the Tengboche Monastery, the largest Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu region.

Day 7 : Tengboche to Dingboche 

After breakfast, we embark on our trek to Dingboche to meet our destiny Everest Three High Passes Trek. Today’s journey covers about 9 kilometers, and it’s a relatively easy trail, mostly downhill, surrounded by beautiful Rhododendron trees. After a few hours of
walking, we’ll cross a bridge over the Imja River, leading us to Pangboche. Throughout the Everest Three High Passes trek, the open area offers trekkers more and more views of stunning landscapes. Continuing towards the Imja Valley, we eventually reach Dingboche.

Day 8 : Dingboche to Chhukung and Climb Chhukung Ri

Today’s trek involves both uphill and downhill sections. Along the trail, you’ll come across traditional farms and fences built with local stones. As we pass through the Imja Khola valley, about half an hour of walking brings us to Chhukung, where we’ll have lunch before heading to Chhukung Ri. The climb to Chhukung Ri may take around 4-5 hours, and it’s a suitable option for beginners as it’s not as technically challenging as some other peaks. From the summit, you’ll be treated to a fantastic view of Ama Dablam, Amphu, Abuche peaks, and more. We then return to Chhukung village for an overnight stay.

Day 9 : Chhukung to Lobuche via Kongma La Pass

Today, we’ll be crossing Kongma La Pass (5,535 meters), one of the highest points on our Everest Three High Passes trek. There are two trails to cross the pass: one in the northwest of Chhukung over the Nuptse Glacier moraines, and the other retraces our steps back to Bibre and follows the trail above the Niyang Khola. Since there are no hotels, shops, or teahouses along the way, we’ll bring our own packed foods and water. At the top of Kongma La Pass, we’ll see beautiful Buddhist prayer flags. The final descent after crossing the pass is the most challenging part of today’s trek. Climbing the moraine on the far side, the trail turns north of Khumbu Glacier, leading us to Lobuche.

Day 10 : Lobuche to Gorak Shep, Explore Everest Base Camp

Today’s trail is of moderate difficulty as we make our way to Gorak Shep before heading to Everest Base Camp. We kick off our hike along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. As we progress, we’ll catch sight of the north ridge of Everest, as well as Pumori, Mahalangur, Lingtern, Khumbutse, Nuptse, and other mountains.
 
The journey of the Everest Three High Passes trek includes a steep climb to the top of Changri Glacier, followed by a descent to Gorak Shep, where we’ll have lunch and rest for about two hours. Afterward, we embark on the trek to Everest Base Camp, the closest point to Mt. Everest. The path takes us through rocky dunes, moraines, and streams until we reach the base camp. The views of the Khumbu Icefall from the base camp are spectacular, and you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori mountains.After spending some time admiring the majestic scenery, we trek back to Gorak Shep.

Day 11 : Morning Hike to Kalapatthar, Then Trek to Lobuche

Today marks one of the most challenging yet rewarding days of this Everest Three High Passes trek. The majority of the day is dedicated to climbing Mt. Kalapatthar at 5,550 meters. From the summit, you’ll enjoy an exceptional view of Everest. After spending some time at Kalapatthar, we descend towards Lobuche, a small village surrounded by rocky mountains and the Himalayas. While there are mostly older-style lodges, in recent years, more modernized lodges have opened, some offering internet and oxygen services.

Day 12 : Lobuche to Dzongla

Starting from Lobuche for the mission of Everest Three High Passes Trek, we descend alongside the Khumbu Glacier. The trail splits into two, and we take the right side to reach Dzongla. In the distance, a stupa and tombstone become visible. Following this, the trail gradually ascends. As we climb, we’ll come across Chola Tsho Lake. After crossing Chola Khola, we reach Dzongla.

Day 13 : Dzongla to Gokyo via Chola Pass

Today, our trek begins early, around 4-5 am, to ensure we cross Chola Pass before midday. As we start, you’ll be able to see Ama Dablam towering over a range of mountains to the south, and Cholatse to the west. The route might be a bit challenging due to the high altitude and steep, loose rocks. Snow could pose difficulties while crossing Chola Pass, and there’s a risk of falling rocks, even in good weather. However, the view from the top of Chola Pass is truly magnificent.
 
We’ll descend to our destination, Gokyo, crossing Khara Panka and the Ngozumpa glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of Kantega and the impressive Cho Oyu mountain during this Everest Three High Passes trek time. Gokyo is home to a series of six lakes, with the third one being Gokyo Lake.

Day 14 : Climb to Gokyo-Ri

Early in the morning, we embark on a steep climb to the top of Gokyo-Ri at an elevation of 5,485 meters. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking views of the stunning Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa glacier, and an incredible panoramic display of the entire Khumbu Himalayan range, including giants like Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, and Gyachung Kyang. After spending an hour at the summit, we descend back to Gokyo.

Day 15 : Gokyo Lake to Rermo Pokhari via Renjo Pass

After having breakfast at the teahouse, we’ll start our trek to Rermo Pokhari via Renjo Pass (5,345 meters ) to meet for Everest Three High Passes Trek. The trail runs alongside Dudh Pokhari for a while, and after about two hours of walking, we descend towards Renjo Pass. Along the way, you’ll witness the beautiful landscapes of the Himalayas. The view from the top of Renjo Pass is similar to the one from Gokyo Ri, offering a panoramic sight of the third Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Village below the Ngozumpa Glacier. We’ll visit Rermo Pokhari and enjoy sightseeing if time permits.

Day 16 : Rermo Pokhari to Namche Bazaar

After an early breakfast, we begin our descent to Thame. Along the trail, you’ll catch sight of an impressive snow peak about 150 meters above Thame. Thame is a traditional Sherpa village that has remained untouched by the bustling Everest trekking crowds and is home to one of the oldest monasteries in the region. The village is close to the hometown of Apa Sherpa, who successfully summited Everest 21 times. From Thame, we gradually descend on a trail passing through a few small villages before reaching Namche Bazaar.

Day 17 : Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,800 meters), 6 Hours of Trek

Finally, we make our way back to Lukla, where our trek initially started. The trail starts with a downhill walk, crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. As we trek further, the trail levels out. We pass through rhododendron, pine, and oak forests, encountering several Sherpa villages adorned with prayer stones and prayer flags, until we eventually reach Lukla.

Day 18 : Morning Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu 

Taking in the final views of the mountains of Everest Three High Passes trek, a quick 40- minute scenic flight brings us back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we’ll be taken back to our respective hotels from Everest Three High Passes Trek. In the evening, there will be a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of your mountain
journey.
 
Note: If you’re interested in extending your trip, there are many options available, such as the Chitwan jungle safari, river rafting, adventure Kathmandu shopping tour, mountain biking, and other activities. During the farewell dinner, you can explore these options with cultural restaurants. After Everest Three High Passes Trek we have to take different experiences in life time.

Day 19 : Final Departure

Today marks the end of your time in Nepal, and it’s time to head back to your home country. Our team will ensure you reach Tribhuvan International Airport with plenty of time—three hours before your flight departure.
